As I listened to the tributes to Michael Jackson this week on the fifth anniversary of his passing,it caused me to reflect on the fact that this year also marks the fifth anniversary of the passing of my dear friend E. Lynn Harris who passed away on July 23, 2009. In celebration of his memory, I have written a tribute to him, "Lynn's Angels - The True Story of E. Lynn Harris and the Women Who Loved Him". Enjoy.

I'm so sorry that we as a people has lost such a great writer. I've read his material and thought it was awsome.  I just began a writing course and wish he was still among us to share thoughts, ideals and get to  know one another.  R.I.P

Hey e....so tomorrow's the big day...Mama Dearest will be coming home with me. I miss you so. I checked out a church in Chicago two weeks ago and the pianist/worship leader looked JUST like you. And I when I say, "JUST" - I mean J-U-S-T...same body, height, hair, dressed in something I could see you in...When I dared to look over at him, tears would fill my eyes. I Miss You. Has it really been two months? It feels so much longer, and yet it went by faster than I could have imagined. Lynn, I cried so hard when I found out...I just wept. I miss you. So see, these tears....streaming down my cheeks...these tears are my love for you. I Miss You Friend. Part of me wants to be there when Borders opens tomorrow and the other part of me wants to put it off because I know it will be the last book of yours I buy and the only one that you won't ever sign. I. Miss. You.

I was gutted when I read E Lynn Harris had passed on. His books were so brilliant..I would pass them out among my sisters.  Invisable Life was the first gay book I had read and opened so many new doors for me and to understanding the gay lifestyle.  All his books were excellent and its a shame he has gone so soon.  I hope he RIP and am thankful I was introduced to his books.

E. Lynn Harris: Cause of Death Revealed

The official cause of death for E. Lynn Harris has been revealed.

A coroner's official said heart disease, complicated by high blood pressure and a hardening of the arteries, is what killed Harris.

Yesterday, county coroner Craig Harvey said that the 54-year-old died of natural causes.

The Flint, MI native died July 23 while visiting Los Angeles to promote his latest book Harris, who lived in Atlanta, was considered a pioneer of gay black fiction and renowned as one of the most successful black authors of his generation.

He wrote 11 books – including 'Invisible Life,' 'This Too Shall Pass,' and 'Basketball Jones' since 1991 – including 10 of which became New York Times best-sellers.

The former IBM executive, who had a new book planned for release later this year, had more than four million of his books are in print.

According to Harris' good friend and literary colleague Eric Jerome Dickey, a funeral will held today @ Gaines Street Baptist Church in Little Rock.

E. Lynn Harris was my source of inspiration during the most difficult times of my life.  It was after reading his first book that I came to terms with the different dynamics of human sexuality.  Mr.Harris was the driving force behind my academic research on same sex marriage.  Even though he did not directly address the issue in his books, there was that longing for a meaningful, long term relationship in most of his characters that drove me to research the topic.
R.I.P. E. Lynn, I will miss you. I am a better person because I read your books.  You opened my eyes to real life.  I will always cherish the fact that I met you in person when I attended two of your lectures.

The late Mr. E. Lynn Harris was one of America's most profound and compelling writers.  While he was celebrated in many cities and in many venues, there were thousands more to come.  We only wish that he would still be here to receive his accolades.  His unique blend of fiction and reality provided a considerable education for millions of readers.  He truly let his light shine for the benefit of those around him.

Peace and blessings to his mother, family and friends.  I never met him but read all of his books.  I loved him for sharing his talent with the world.

What keeps me from being very sad at this point is remembering the character, Riley, who "had the audacity" to stand up and sing at a  friend's funeral service as if she were an accomplished vocalist - which, of course, she was not...Hilarious!  When one of my best friends went on to glory, I copied that page and put it on the seats of all of my friends and sorors to let them know that I was at peace with our friend's passing.

I pray that the family and friends of Mr. Harris will find the peace that he so often spoke of during book talks (Thank you Cable-TV/C-SPAN).  I look forward to attending the memorial service in Philadelphia.

I have been a fan of E Lynn Harris since the 90's. I have all of his books. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to speak with him, but I did. He saw me on The Biggest Loser Couples Season 7 on NBC, and requested my friendship on facebook. I was estatic, but that just shows how geniuine of a person he was.
I will always remember that, I pray for his friends and family to be strengthened during this time, but know that, "This to Shall Pass"!'

Thank You E Lynn, for sharing your life and your stories with us!!!
