I had the chance to hear him speak when he came to ATL to discuss his latest book @ the Decatur library. I'll admit, I was a little biased cause I knew he was gay and I was expecting him to be a certain kind of way. (You'd have to ask my moms about our 'kittens on a cloud' joke... LOL)
However, after hearing him speak (he actually answered my question during the Q&A session) I concluded that he was the real deal. To be such a widely known, ROCK STAR of a novelist, he was VERY down to earth and easy to talk too.

He will be missed...

ALTHOUGH I NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET MR. E. LYNN HARRIS, I FEEL CONNECTED TO HIM THROUGH HIS WORK. MR. HARRIS WAS TRULY A REMARKABLE AUTHOR AND ALTHOUGH HIS VESSEL MAY NO LONGER BE AMONGST US, HIS SPIRIT SHALL LIVE WITHIN US FOR YEARS AND YEARS. HIS NOVELS WERE ALL GREAT AND HE WILL BE MISSED, TREMENDOUSLY.

I have worked in the publicity departments of several major publishing houses in NYC so I know firsthand how hard it is for Black authors. Mr. Harris' success story first as a self-published author and then with a major house inspired many, myself included. I attended NYU and graduated with my masters in publishing and have worked with many writers but I never had the pleasure of working with E. Lynn Harris. I read his books and loved them. I was encouraged by his success and cheering him on from the sidelines. He was a trailblazers opening the doors for Black fiction writers and giving a positive outlet for the Lesbian, Gay and Transgender community along with the African-American  community. I am so sorry about his passing.

I met Mr. Harris at the Shrine of the Black Madonna bookstore here in Atlanta some years ago.  He was very warm and very supportive of other African American writers.  I've had the pleasure of reading all of his books, which were always hard to put down.  There will never be another E. Lynn Harris.

You will be deeply missed but your work and your kindnesses to others will live on as a testament to the giant of a man that you were.  R.I.P.

This has really taken me by surprise. He was an amazing writer and all those things that have already been mentioned. I will miss him . I will miss the excitement of hearing about another book coming out! Wow, this is alot to be missed for me. I've read every story he's publicly shared. I remember my first time ever reading a novel, which was urged by a teacher and it was an E. Lynn Harris book "This Too Shall Pass", it was a moment I found a passion in writing myself. He inspired me in more ways than one. The memories... We have lost one of the best fiction writer's! He has left behind wonderful memories of literature.

May his soul rest in peace....

I have been a big fan of E. Lynn since the release of Invisible Life and finally got the chance to meet him in 2006 at a book signing promoting I Say a Little Prayer. When I heard E. Lynn speak and met him, I was happy that he projected the warm and humble spirit that I'd always imagined he would...and talk about a smile that was contagious! When he signed my book, I told him I was a big fan and gave him a card in which I written more about how much I treasured his work, especially his autobiography What Becomes of the Brokenhearted. I left the event feeling grateful that I got to meet one of my personal heroes. Then, about a week later, I received a package in the mail with a handwritten return address that I didn't recognize. When I opened it, there was a beautiful note from E. Lynn thanking me for my card, along with some promotional items. You would have thought I'd received a love note from Idris Elba! From what I've read since his death, he reached out to fans all the time. He just seemed like such a kindhearted man...I'm glad he chose to share his talent with so many. May God bless him and his family.

Words can't express the pain in my heart for the loss of such a brillant author and person.. Mr. Harris really cared about his fans and will be sorely missed, I have read ALL his books and he brought a twist and uniqueness no other Author can touch. He loved his fans as much as we loved him, he had no problem dropping an email to a fan who wrote him. He always had time for us, Rest In Peace Mr. Harris, we will continue to love and miss you.

God bless to the Harris family.
